Assets Analysis

Basic Concepts

1.P/L Trend Analysis

The horizontal axis shows time, the same as the assets trend analysis chart. The vertical axis shows the return rate. The points on the curve represent the cumulative return of the total assets from the start date to the current day. By clicking on specific market indices, you can compare them against major indices over the same period.

Note: This shows cumulative return (not annualized) from start to end date. It shows how $1 invested initially would perform over the selected period.

2.Assets Trend Analysis

The horizontal axis shows time, with start and end dates at each end. The vertical axis shows net asset value (NAV). The points on the curve represent total NAV (including funds, securities, and futures) converted to one currency using daily exchange rates. If it’s a non-trading day, the value is the same as the last trading day's NAV.

3.Return Calculation Methods

Moomoo offers three different ways to calculate the return rate. For details, click here. For a brief overview:

3.1 Time-Weighted Return

Time-Weighted Return = [ (1 + Day 1 Return) × (1 + Day 2 Return) × … × (1 + Day N Return) − 1 ] × 100%

Daily Return = Today's P&L / (Yesterday's Assets + 0.5 × Today's Net Inflow)

When there are large and frequent cash flows, returns may appear opposite to the cumulative P/L.

Example

1.Day T: Beginning assets 100, Net inflow 0 → Ending assets 150 → Today's P&L +50, Daily Return +50.00%

2.Day T+1: Beginning assets 150, Net inflow +1000 → Ending assets 1050 → Today's P&L -100, Daily Return -15.38%

3.Period [T,T+1]: Time-Weighted Return +26.93%, but cumulative P/L=-50

In such cases, the time-weighted return is misleading. You may consider using cumulative P/L or other return calculation methods.

3.2 Money-Weighted Return

Money-Weighted Return = Cumulative P/L / Adjusted Beginning Assets

Adjusted Beginning Assets = Beginning Assets + Σ (Each Net Inflow × Weight Factor)

Weight Factor = (Days the cash flow remains) / (Total days in the calculation period)

For a 100-day period, if a deposit is made on day 30, it remains invested for 70 days (100-30). The weight is 0.7 (70/100), equivalent to 70% invested from the start.

3.3 Simple Return

Simple Return = Cumulative P/L / (Beginning Assets + 0.5 × Total Net Inflow)

All net inflows are assumed to be 50% invested from the beginning, regardless of when they occurred.

4.Net Assets

Today's NAV:

Calculated in real-time based on current positions and live market prices, as the trading day is still open. This value fluctuates with the market.

Historical NAV (T-1 and earlier): Calculated using end-of-day positions and corresponding securities' closing prices.

5.Net Inflow

5.1 Cash Deposit and Withdrawal

  • Deposits or withdrawals of cash, excluding seeds and gift shares.

5.2 Stock Transfer

The calculation is based on:

  • The closing price on the transfer date, or

  • The cost basis provided by the client at the time of transfer, if specified.

5.3 Other

  • Includes stock options/RSUs, calculated as:

(Market Value Of Shares + Cash Received) - Exercise Costs - Taxes - Fees

Formula

Net Inflow = Total Inflows - Total Outflows = (Deposits - Withdrawals) + (Stock In - Stock Out) + Other

6.Cumulative P/L

Calculates the total profit/loss from changes in asset value over the selected period.

Formula

Cumulative P/L = Ending NAV - Beginning NAV - Net Inflows

7.Time Period

Selecting Date Ranges

  • Start date: Select any date

  • End date: Select up to today

  • Minimum duration: At least 7 days between dates

8.Exchange Rates

The daily exchange rates shown on the total asset trend chart are historical rates used to convert the daily NAV and net cash flows.

1) Beginning NAV: Uses the exchange rate on the start date.

2) Net Cash Inflows: Uses the exchange rate on the transaction date.

3) Ending NAV: Uses the exchange rate on the end date.

To calculate cumulative and daily returns: 1) All values are first converted using historical daily rates, 2) Then the formulas are applied.

9.Daily Update

The system shows next-day assets and P/L figures each day at 10:00 AM AET.

FAQs

1.Is all data updated in real time?

Assets Overview: Yes, your total asset value is shown in one currency using live rates.

Trend Analysis and P/L Calendar: Show the latest data when you enter the page. Refresh for live updates.

2.Why is my Today's P/L different from the Daily P/L in Asset Analysis?

Different Calculation

• Your account shows trading profits/losses only (excludes fees/dividends).

• Asset Analysis covers all changes affecting your net asset value.

Different Timing

Your account's Today's P/L includes the trading day profits/losses for each market and is reset daily at midnight local time (e.g., HK stocks reset at 12 AM Beijing time). Asset Analysis maintains the full daily P/L data across all markets.
