5G cross-network roaming means that when the affiliated operator does not have 5G network coverage, users can connect to other operators' 5G networks and continue to use 5G services. Launching 5G cross-network roaming can effectively improve the efficiency of network resource utilization, improve the 5G network coverage level and user 5G service experience in remote areas, and promote the high-quality development of the information and communication industry.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology resolutely implements the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and the State Council to promote the innovative application of 5G technology in China. On May 17, 2023, the world's first 5G cross-network roaming trial was launched in Xinjiang. The number of roaming users, roaming data volume, and roaming call time each exceeded 34,000 people, 2,000 GB, and 200 hours, respectively, effectively verifying the commercial viability of 5G roaming on the current network.
