Serabi Gold PLC said Tuesday that Chief Operating Officer Roney Almeida has stepped down and it has discontinued the position, and named Helio Tavares as its general manager of projects and operations.

The gold mining company said that the responsibilities of the COO will be shared between Mr. Tavares and Chief Executive Mike Hodgson.

Mr. Tavares will report directly to Mr. Hodgson and be responsible for operations at the Palito Complex project in Brazil, as well as oversee the development and construction of the Coringa gold mine.

The company said that Mr. Tavares was involved in the original development of Palito, designing and overseeing the construction of the process plant in 2004. He returned to Serabi in 2013 after a stint in consulting to oversee the re-commissioning of Palito and has held the position of general manager for five years.
