Do you own Tesla, Inc. or a traditional car company? Morgan Stanley did a survey.

Futu News on April 13, the U. S. stock new energy automobile plate rose, Tesla, Inc. rose more than 5% in intraday trading, and the market capitalization returned to the $700 billion mark.

Morgan Stanley issued a report on April 12, giving Tesla, Inc. an overweight rating with a target price of US $880.

In the report, Morgan Stanley mentioned that it recently conducted a small survey of institutional investors and industry experts:

Which asset would you choose to hold in the next three years: Tesla, Inc. or an index of the 10 most traditional car companies by market capitalization (equal weight, including General Motors Co, Ford, Stellantis, Volkswagen, Daimler Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Renault, Toyota, Nissan, Honda)?

The results were somewhat unexpected. A total of 30 responses were received in the survey, with 60% of respondents choosing traditional car companies and 40% Tesla, Inc..

It should be noted that the options of this survey are relatively limited and do not include new car-building forces such as NIO Inc. and recent technology giants. The range of respondents also focused on those in the auto industry, and if it were extended to technology and ESG investors, the results might be different.

Since the beginning of this year, the trend of the US auto sector has also been more interesting. The share prices of traditional car companies have substantially outperformed new energy car companies. General Motors Co has risen more than 40% year-to-date, Ford Motor has risen 38%, while Tesla, Inc. has only risen about 5%. NIO Inc., Li Auto Inc. and XPeng Inc. recorded declines.

What do you think of this? Can traditional car companies regain their leading position in the wave of new energy vehicles?
