At Google's annual I/O conference, software and hardware product updates related to artificial intelligence became the center of the event. The focus included AI technology empowering Google's search engine and the new version of Gemini 1.5 Pro, a more powerful artificial intelligence model. Among them, the search engine will launch an “AI Overviews” (AI Overviews) function in the US, and the Google search engine will directly summarize search results. At the same time, the Google search engine will also have multi-step reasoning capabilities, can handle long sentence problems with multiple restrictions at once, and support a new search format for video search solutions centered on “shooting videos.” Furthermore, compared to rivals such as GPT-4, the new version of Gemini 1.5 Pro can handle larger scale text, video, and even audio output.

Vidhya Srinivasan (Vidhya Srinivasan), vice president and general manager of Google advertising, said in a blog post on Wednesday local time: “If the content they show is closely related to user queries and search information in the AI overview, they will have the opportunity to appear in the section clearly marked as 'ad sponsorship' in the AI overview.” Srinivasan added that in Google's early results tests, they heard that people found that some of the ads displayed above and below the AI overview generated by artificial intelligence were very helpful to their actual needs.

Google points out that advertisers on the Google platform do not need to take any action. Ads from existing search databases, Performance Max, and standardized shopping campaigns have the best chance of appearing in AI overviews.

Google advertising executive Srinivasan added that the company will continue to test and learn new advertising models and seek positive feedback from advertisers and the industry.

At the Google I/O conference, the tech giant announced that a new search feature called “AI Overview” will soon be available to everyone in the US market and will soon be expanded to more countries.

Through the generative artificial intelligence feature in Performance Max, Google advertisers will soon be able to share their font and color guidelines in the tool and provide very useful image reference points to generate new asset variant formats. The company also plans to introduce new image editing features soon, so advertisers can try adding new targets, expanding backgrounds, etc.

Google added that as advertisers continue to explore new creative placements, “Google Artificial Intelligence” will generate more suitable product recommendations, showing suitable customer products in different search backgrounds and scenarios.

Additionally, Google advertisers will soon be able to enhance their shopping ad delivery models through Google's immersive visual effects, including virtual try-on and newly generated 3D ads. Google notes that it's trying to launch a new feature that lets shoppers learn more about ads by watching advertisers' product videos, snippets, and similar products.

Google is also testing a new search advertising feature that uses “Google artificial intelligence” to help guide Google search engine users to make purchasing decisions. Google gave an example. If someone searches for “short-term storage” and clicks on the storage function to advertise, “Google Artificial Intelligence” will guide them in detail step by step. If users share specific details, such as photos of similar items and specific budget data, “Google Artificial Intelligence” can recommend the size of the storage unit and packaging materials, and provide a link to purchase on an online website.
