Possible Bearish Signals With Estée Lauder Companies Insiders Disposing Stock

Simply Wall St ·  May 13 12:43

Many The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. (NYSE:EL) insiders ditched their stock over the past year, which may be of interest to the company's shareholders. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Estée Lauder Companies

The Executive Group President, Jane Hudis, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$2.0m worth of shares at a price of US$202 each. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. The silver lining is that this sell-down took place above the latest price (US$132). So it may not tell us anything about how insiders feel about the current share price.

In total, Estée Lauder Companies insiders sold more than they bought over the last year. Most shareholders would be happy to see this sort of insider ownership, since it suggests that management incentives are well aligned with other shareholders.
