Despite Delivering Investors Losses of 55% Over the Past 3 Years, YETI Holdings (NYSE:YETI) Has Been Growing Its Earnings

儘管在過去3年中給投資者帶來了55%的損失,但YETI Holdings(紐約證券交易所代碼:YETI)的收益一直在增長

It's nice to see the YETI Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:YETI) share price up 15% in a week. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last three years have been disappointing. Regrettably, the share price slid 55% in that period. So it is really good to see an improvement. Perhaps the company has turned over a new leaf.

The recent uptick of 15% could be a positive sign of things to come, so let's take a look at historical fundamentals.

To quote Buffett, 'Ships will sail around the world but the Flat Earth Society will flourish. There will continue to be wide discrepancies between price and value in the marketplace...' One imperfect but simple way to consider how the market perception of a company has shifted is to compare the change in the earnings per share (EPS) with the share price movement.

Although the share price is down over three years, YETI Holdings actually managed to grow EPS by 0.2% per year in that time. This is quite a puzzle, and suggests there might be something temporarily buoying the share price. Or else the company was over-hyped in the past, and so its growth has disappointed.

It's pretty reasonable to suspect the market was previously to bullish on the stock, and has since moderated expectations. Looking to other metrics might better explain the share price change.

Revenue is actually up 10% over the three years, so the share price drop doesn't seem to hinge on revenue, either. This analysis is just perfunctory, but it might be worth researching YETI Holdings more closely, as sometimes stocks fall unfairly. This could present an opportunity.

While the broader market gained around 28% in the last year, YETI Holdings shareholders lost 2.9%. Even the share prices of good stocks drop sometimes, but we want to see improvements in the fundamental metrics of a business, before getting too interested. On the bright side, long term shareholders have made money, with a gain of 9% per year over half a decade. It could be that the recent sell-off is an opportunity, so it may be worth checking the fundamental data for signs of a long term growth trend. Before deciding if you like the current share price, check how YETI Holdings scores on these 3 valuation metrics.
