METLIFE AND TELUS HEALTH EXPAND ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES

Leading providers team up to help employers make therapy-driven mental health resources more easily accessible for employees

NEW YORK, April 17, 2024

MetLife (NYSE: MET), a leading provider of disability and absence management services, today announces a new collaboration with TELUS Health, a global healthcare leader providing comprehensive physical, mental and financial wellbeing services and solutions, to expand access to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) services for all employers with Long-Term Disability (LTD) plans*. This new offering will grant employees enrolled in MetLife's Long Term Disability program access to TELUS Health CBT's mental health resources and digital platform, at no cost, in support of their holistic recovery and wellbeing.

According to MetLife's 22nd annual Employee Benefit Trends Study (EBTS), employees are increasingly looking to employers for mental health support. The study reveals a significant shift, with 46% of employees now viewing mental health benefits as essential, a substantial increase from the 25% reported in 2019. CBT is a practical and evidence-based approach to therapy that helps individuals develop healthier thinking patterns and behaviors to effectively manage their emotions and improve their overall mental wellbeing.

This initiative comes as a continuation of MetLife's commitment to delivering benefit experiences that support employees' holistic wellbeing. Recognizing the important role that mental health support plays in the disability and absence journey, the TELUS Health CBT digital platform, available to users in the form of a mobile app, expands the mental health offerings available to MetLife's regional and small business customers, ensuring employers of all sizes can support their workforce's mental health with ease.

"We're proud to offer TELUS Health's flexible and approachable mental health solution to customers and improve the support we provide to employees with long-term disability," says Juliane Kowalski, Senior Vice President, Life and Disability at MetLife. "As mental health remains a workforce-wide challenge, this solution will enable employers to support their employees as they navigate their disability journey and healing."

TELUS Health CBT provides support across the full continuum of mental health and addiction concerns, including anxiety, depression, burnout, substance use, insomnia, adjustment to change, grief and more.

Employers who prioritize employees' mental health also benefit from outsized organizational outcomes—according to MetLife's EBTS research, when employees are mentally healthy, they are more likely to be engaged (1.9x more likely), loyal (1.6x more likely), and productive (1.5x more likely).
