Insiders At IRhythm Technologies Sold US$7.6m In Stock, Alluding To Potential Weakness

Simply Wall St ·  Apr 14 10:42

Over the past year, many iRhythm Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:IRTC) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At iRhythm Technologies

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the President, Quentin Blackford, sold US$3.0m worth of shares at a price of US$122 per share. So what is clear is that an insider saw fit to sell at around the current price of US$113. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

In the last year iRhythm Technologies insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Does iRhythm Technologies Boast High Insider Ownership?

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. iRhythm Technologies insiders own about US$35m worth of shares. That equates to 1.0% of the company. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.
