日本股市火了,金融圈也跟着火了,路演忙不迭

The Japanese stock market is on fire, and so is the financial world. The roadshow is busy

As Japan's economy recovers, investors urgently need high-quality market research to help them make smarter investment decisions. In order to meet customer needs, Wall Street firms have stepped up their roadshows and directly hired Japanese analysts to have face-to-face communication with customers to attract customers to bet on the Japanese market.

How hot is the Japanese stock market? Last week alone, foreign investors bought a total of 1.18 trillion yen (about 7.7 billion US dollars) of Japanese stocks, the highest since 2013.

The Japanese market has become a global favorite, and capital is pouring into Japan. As the Japanese stock market recovers, the Japanese financial industry has created more jobs, and investors' demand for in-depth understanding of the Japanese market is increasing.

In order to meet customer needs, Wall Street businessmen have crossed the sea with the Eight Immortals, each showing their ingenuity.

Citigroup directly hires Japanese analysts to meet with customers face-to-face. Kota Ezawa (Kota Ezawa), head of Japan research at Citibank, said that the overseas marketing activities of Citigroup's Japanese securities analysts increased more than fivefold in 2023 compared to 2022, and this trend will continue in 2024.

Citigroup has also organized “Japan Day” events around the world. At these events, Citibank's Japan leaders, analysts, strategists, and traders discussed investment opportunities from various perspectives, from stocks and fixed income to foreign exchange.

Morgan Stanley is no slouch either. Its brokerage firm, a joint venture with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, directly sent more than 30 Tokyo-based researchers to Hong Kong and Singapore last month for a week-long visit. The purpose of this visit was to meet the needs of customers in depth understanding of the Japanese market through face-to-face communication between the company's stock analysts and economists, and at the same time introduce customers to their strong research team and bring them closer to customers.

Bank of America launched a new quarterly conference call in January of this year targeting institutional investors located in the US, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During the conference call, Japanese analysts will share their best stock investment advice. The media quoted a Bank of America spokesperson as saying that the conference call was warmly welcomed by investors.

After Japan gradually emerged from the “lost 30 years,” the recovery of the Japanese economy is bringing new vitality to the careers of analysts and bond traders in the financial industry, while also creating more business opportunities for brokerage firms and other research service providers.

Institutional investors seek high-quality market research to help them make smarter investment decisions. According to a report by consulting firm Coalition Greenwich, institutional investors in Japan are expected to use more research service providers this year, while they have been using fewer research service providers every year since 2019.

Tarun Hariharan, the company's research manager, said: “We will be watching closely to see if this recovery trend translates into increased transaction expenses, which will boost revenue for brokerage firms and other research service providers.”

Hideyasu Ban, an analyst at Bloomberg Think Tank, said: “There is a growing interest in re-understanding Japanese companies and markets. However, to maintain this interest and translate it into actual investment growth after investors complete the initial learning phase, the Japanese market itself needs to continue to show its value and appeal.”
