Addus HomeCare Insiders Sell US$3.4m Of Stock, Possibly Signalling Caution

Simply Wall St ·  Apr 11 06:45

The fact that multiple Addus HomeCare Corporation (NASDAQ:ADUS) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Addus HomeCare

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the CEO & Chairman of the Board, R. Allison, for US$2.4m worth of shares, at about US$94.67 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even below the current price of US$97.02. When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was only 32% of R. Allison's holding.
