Insider Buying: GSH Executive Chairman Bought S$83k Of Shares

Simply Wall St ·  Mar 1 17:05

Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the GSH Corporation Limited (SGX:BDX) Executive Chairman, Seng Hui Goi, recently bought S$83k worth of stock, for S$0.17 per share. Nevertheless, it only increased their shareholding by a minuscule percentage, and it wasn't a massive purchase by absolute value, either.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At GSH

Notably, that recent purchase by Seng Hui Goi is the biggest insider purchase of GSH shares that we've seen in the last year. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, at around the current price, which is S$0.17. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. Happily, the GSH insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Seng Hui Goi.

Seng Hui Goi bought a total of 1.32m shares over the year at an average price of S$0.17. Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It's great to see that GSH insiders own 73% of the company, worth about S$239m. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About GSH Insiders?

It is good to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses. Once you factor in the high insider ownership, it certainly seems like insiders are positive about GSH. One for the watchlist, at least! So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company.
