Brain-computer interface+AI, full of buffs!

In less than a month, Musk's brain-computer interface technology has taken the first step in controlling a computer with only ideas.

Recently, Musk recently revealed that the first patient to implant Neuralink's brain-computer interface technology “appears to have fully recovered” and can control a computer mouse through thoughts.

At this point, in addition to marveling at the appeal of technology, this is also a milestone moment ushered in brain-computer interface technology.

Today, the A-share brain-computer interface concept is actively rising. Boji Pharmaceuticals and Innovative Healthcare have risen by more than 5%, Sanbo Neurology has risen by more than 4%, and Nanjing Panda, Qisheng Technology, and Jiahe Smart have risen by more than 3%.

“Ideological manipulation

On February 19, local time, Musk said in a live interview on the X platform that the first patient with the Neuralink chip implanted seemed to have fully recovered without any side effects.

“It's progressing well, and the patient appears to have made a full recovery with no adverse effects known to us. Patients can move their mouse around the screen just by thinking.”

Currently, Neuralink is trying to make patients press mouse buttons as often as possible.

In May of last year, the Neuralink experiment was approved by the FDA, and recruitment began in September.

At the time, the company said it was looking for volunteers aged 22 and over who were quadriplegic due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Each participant will implant Neuralink's N1 device into their brain via the company's R1 robot.

Once in place, the implant's 1024 electrodes will record neural activity and transfer the data to a connected app where algorithms translate brain activity into computer control.

According to Neuralink, the main study period will last 18 months, including regular at-home and in-person clinical examinations and regular brain-computer interface research sessions, followed by five years of follow-up, including 20 additional clinic visits.

At the end of January this year, Neuralink announced the first implantation of a device into the human brain.

At the time, Musk explained, Neuralink's first product is called “telepathy”(Telepathy).

He claims that in the future, in addition to connecting anyone's brain to a smartphone, Neuralink's brain-computer interface may also be used to help blind people recover their eyesight and allow paralyzed people to recover their ability to move.

“Just think to control your phone or computer and use them to control almost any device. The first users will be those who have lost a limb. Imagine if Stephen Hawking communicated faster than a typist or auctioneer. That's our goal.”

As can be seen, Musk has big ambitions for Neuralink.

Currently, Neuralink's technology is still in the early stages of testing and development. Neuralink plans to perform 11 human surgeries this year, 27 in 2025 and 79 in 2026.

This new breakthrough in human clinical trials also marks a step towards commercialization of Neuralink.

Although Musk has made great strides in this field, Meta CEO Zuckerberg is cautious.

He said he thinks neural interfaces are “one of the crazier things we're working on.” He stressed that Meta hasn't begun studying brain implants, but they might consider it.

“Maybe someone will do this in the future, but I don't want to use version 1 of it. I think you might have to wait until that version is quite mature. Let's just wait until we upgrade that thing every year when I don't need it.”

Currently, brain-computer interface technology is considered the new blue ocean in the medical market.

Coupled with this round of AI-led technological revolution, brain-computer interfaces at the cutting edge of biological science and artificial intelligence are about to become the next explosive racetrack.

According to McKinsey & Co., Ltd., the global brain-computer interface industry will generate economic value of up to 200 billion US dollars in the next 10 to 20 years.

Looking at the domestic market, tech giants are successively launching artificial intelligence brain programs based on their own product lines, including companies such as Ali, Baidu, iFLYTEK, and MihaTour.

Additionally, on January 29, teams from Xuanwu Hospital and Tsinghua University School of Medicine also announced:Brain-computer interfaces have made phased progress. The world's first quadriplegic patient receiving brain-computer assisted treatment with implantable epidural electrodes has achieved autonomous brain control of drinking water.

Guotai Jun An pointed out thatBrain-computer interfaces promote the development of AI in the multi-modal field and are expected to drive a new round of markets.

Currently, the development of large models of EEG often faces difficulties in collecting and processing EEG data. With the development of brain-computer interfaces, after brain-computer interfaces become a new method of human-computer interaction, brain waves may become one of the modes in larger models, which will effectively improve the efficiency and scale of EEG data collection and processing.

As the AI multi-modal model represented by the Sora model enters rapid development, brain-computer interfaces will continue to empower multi-modal related training.
