Trade Alert: Senior MD Of Evercore Jason Klurfeld Has Sold Stock

Simply Wall St ·  Feb 15 05:31

We wouldn't blame Evercore Inc. (NYSE:EVR) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Jason Klurfeld, the Senior MD recently netted about US$1.0m selling shares at an average price of US$173. Probably the most concerning element of the whole transaction is that the disposal amounted to 61% of their entire holding.

Evercore Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Notably, that recent sale by Jason Klurfeld is the biggest insider sale of Evercore shares that we've seen in the last year. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$183, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. This single sale was 61% of Jason Klurfeld's stake.

In the last year Evercore insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see the insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. By clicking on the graph below, you can see the precise details of each insider transaction!

Insider Ownership Of Evercore

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. Evercore insiders own about US$520m worth of shares (which is 6.8% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Evercore Insiders?

It is good to see high insider ownership, but the insider selling leaves us cautious.
