Have Insiders Sold Samsara Shares Recently?

Simply Wall St ·  Dec 9, 2023 07:26

Some Samsara Inc. (NYSE:IOT) shareholders may be a little concerned to see that the Executive VP & CFO, Dominic Phillips, recently sold a substantial US$2.5m worth of stock at a price of US$33.43 per share. However, that sale only accounted for 7.3% of their holding, so arguably it doesn't say much about their conviction.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Samsara

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Non-Employee Independent Director, Hemant Taneja, sold US$57m worth of shares at a price of US$18.86 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$33.67). As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. However, while insider selling is sometimes discouraging, it's only a weak signal. We note that the biggest single sale was 100% of Hemant Taneja's holding.

Samsara insiders own 47% of the company, currently worth about US$8.5b based on the recent share price.
