Simply Wall St ·  Dec 4, 2023 07:34

Quite a few insiders have dramatically grown their holdings in Corteva, Inc. (NYSE:CTVA) over the past 12 months. An insider's optimism about the company's prospects is a positive sign.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Check out our latest analysis for Corteva

Corteva Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by CEO & Director Charles Magro for US$2.4m worth of shares, at about US$60.64 per share. So it's clear an insider wanted to buy, even at a higher price than the current share price (being US$46.20). Their view may have changed since then, but at least it shows they felt optimistic at the time. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

Insider Ownership

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
