One Vista Outdoor Insider Raised Their Stake In The Previous Year

Simply Wall St ·  Nov 23, 2023 09:03

Viewing insider transactions for Vista Outdoor Inc.'s (NYSE:VSTO ) over the last year, we see that insiders were net buyers. This means that a larger number of shares were purchased by insiders in relation to shares sold.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Vista Outdoor Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The insider Rene Holecek made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$13m worth of shares at a price of US$24.99 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$25.72. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. We do always like to see insider buying, but it is worth noting if those purchases were made at well below today's share price, as the discount to value may have narrowed with the rising price. Happily, the Vista Outdoor insider decided to buy shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Rene Holecek.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that Vista Outdoor insiders own 3.9% of the company, worth about US$58m. This level of insider ownership is good but just short of being particularly stand-out. It certainly does suggest a reasonable degree of alignment.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Vista Outdoor Insiders?

It is good to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But we don't feel the same about the fact the company is making losses.
