Possible Bearish Signals With World Acceptance Insiders Disposing Stock

Possible Bearish Signals With World Acceptance Insiders Disposing Stock

Simply Wall St ·  2023/10/21 08:54

World Acceptance Corporation (NASDAQ:WRLD) shareholders may have reason to be concerned, as several insiders sold their shares over the past year. When evaluating insider transactions, knowing whether insiders are buying versus if they selling is usually more beneficial, as the latter can be open to many interpretations. However, when multiple insiders sell stock over a specific duration, shareholders should take notice as that could possibly be a red flag.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At World Acceptance

World Accept

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider sale was by the Independent Chairman of the Board, Ken Bramlett, for US$291k worth of shares, at about US$97.00 per share. That means that an insider was selling shares at slightly below the current price (US$111). When an insider sells below the current price, it suggests that they considered that lower price to be fair. That makes us wonder what they think of the (higher) recent valuation. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was only 8.4% of Ken Bramlett's holding.

There haven't been any insider transactions in the last three months -- that doesn't mean much. It's great to see high levels of insider ownership, but looking back over the last year, we don't gain confidence from the World Acceptance insiders selling. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. For instance, we've identified 2 warning signs for World Acceptance (1 makes us a bit uncomfortable) you should be aware of.
