Here's Why We Think Yelp (NYSE:YELP) Is Well Worth Watching

這就是我們認爲Yelp(紐約證券交易所代碼:YELP)值得一看的原因

The excitement of investing in a company that can reverse its fortunes is a big draw for some speculators, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can manage to find investors. Sometimes these stories can cloud the minds of investors, leading them to invest with their emotions rather than on the merit of good company fundamentals. A loss-making company is yet to prove itself with profit, and eventually the inflow of external capital may dry up.

Despite being in the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, many investors still adopt a more traditional strategy; buying shares in profitable companies like Yelp (NYSE:YELP). While profit isn't the sole metric that should be considered when investing, it's worth recognising businesses that can consistently produce it.

How Fast Is Yelp Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

Yelp

In the last three years Yelp's earnings per share took off; so much so that it's a bit disingenuous to use these figures to try and deduce long term estimates. So it would be better to isolate the growth rate over the last year for our analysis. Outstandingly, Yelp's EPS shot from US$0.55 to US$1.34, over the last year. Year on year growth of 144% is certainly a sight to behold.

Top-line growth is a great indicator that growth is sustainable, and combined with a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin, it's a great way for a company to maintain a competitive advantage in the market. The good news is that Yelp is growing revenues, and EBIT margins improved by 3.9 percentage points to 7.8%, over the last year. That's great to see, on both counts.

Are Yelp Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Yelp Insiders

It's pleasing to see company leaders with putting their money on the line, so to speak, because it increases alignment of incentives between the people running the business, and its true owners. Yelp followers will find comfort in knowing that insiders have a significant amount of capital that aligns their best interests with the wider shareholder group. Notably, they have an enviable stake in the company, worth US$192m. Investors will appreciate management having this amount of skin in the game as it shows their commitment to the company's future.

Is Yelp Worth Keeping An Eye On?

Yelp

Yelp's earnings per share growth have been climbing higher at an appreciable rate. This level of EPS growth does wonders for attracting investment, and the large insider investment in the company is just the cherry on top. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point, so there's a potential opportunity to be had here. So at the surface level, Yelp is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. Of course, just because Yelp is growing does not mean it is undervalued. If you're wondering about the valuation, check out this gauge of its price-to-earnings ratio, as compared to its industry.
