Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Akoustis Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKTS) ("Akoustis" or the "Company"), an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) of patented bulk acoustic wave (BAW) high-band RF filters for mobile and other wireless applications, announced that it has received an order for the development of a new 5G mobile XBAW® filter for a tier-1 RF module maker.

Akoustis received a purchase order from this customer in December of 2021 for delivery of resonator models to be used in the design of the new 5G mobile filter, with first sample delivery expected in the second half of calendar 2022 and production-ready filters expected by the end of calendar 2023, in-line with Akoustis' planned capacity expansion. The customer is a tier-1 RF module maker that is leveraging Akoustis' leading XBAW® filter technology to address a difficult coexistence frequency band in 5G mobile. Akoustis expects that this customer will develop additional 5G mobile filters upon the successful completion of this initial design.

Jeff Shealy, founder and CEO of Akoustis, stated, "We successfully delivered XBAW® resonators to this customer that were used to develop a new 5G mobile XBAW® filter design that will be manufactured in our New York fab facility." Mr. Shealy continued, "Our foundry business is proving to be attractive to 5G mobile customers that want to create customized solutions with high-quality XBAW® filters."

Akoustis is currently ramping commercial production and is investing to achieve annual production capacity of approximately 500 million units. Akoustis is actively delivering volume production of its Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E tandem filter solutions, shipping multiple 5G small cell XBAW® filter solutions and delivering initial designs of its new 5G mobile filter solutions to multiple customers. To date, Akoustis has received more than 20 customer design wins for its patented XBAW® filter solutions.
