“5th Low Pollen Cedar Tree Planting Festival” hosted by SGEC/PEFC Japan

Unicharm Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Takehisa Takahara) has a matching fund for the “5th Low Pollen Cedar Tree Planting Festival” hosted by SGEC/PEFC Japan as part of activities to “not be complicit in deforestation” set out in the medium- to long-term environmental target “Environmental Target 2030.”※I would like to inform you that we donated the entire amount of saplings through and participated in tree planting together.
* Established for the purpose of “supporting disaster-stricken areas.” We sell original polo shirts, jumpers, goods, etc. worn by employees in-house. A system where employees donate an amount equivalent to the purchase price.
Background of participation in the “5th Small Pollen Cedar Tree Planting Festival”
In order to achieve a “zero deforestation” society set out in the medium- to long-term environmental target “Environmental Target 2030,” we have set a target for 100% of forest-derived raw materials such as pulp and tissues used in business activities to be “PEFC certified materials” by 2030. Furthermore, the goal is for all factories that use forest-derived resources as raw materials to obtain “CoC certification” as determined by PEFC by 2030.
Due to reasons such as the fact that our efforts are highly compatible with PEFC activities, etc., we signed a memorandum of understanding with SGEC/PEFC Japan to “jointly promote forest certification” in 2022/11, and have jointly begun efforts related to sustainable forest use and protection.
Cooperation with the Low Pollen Cedar Tree Planting Festival this time was carried out as part of such efforts.
Overview of the “5th Low Pollen Cedar Tree Planting Festival” hosted by SGEC/PEFC Japan
It is an effort to reduce hay fever while expanding forest resources by planting low-pollen varieties of cedar trees.

・Location: SGEC certified forest in Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture
・Planting trees: Approximately 200 small pollen cedar seedlings
・Organizer: General Incorporated Association Green Cycle Certification Conference (SGEC/PEFC Japan)
・Special Cooperation: Unicharm Co., Ltd.
About “SGEC/PEFC Japan”
The Green Cycle Certification Council (SGEC) is the first organization in Japan to implement standards relating to the utilization of forest resources, with the aim of “expanding 'sustainable forests' and leading to 'sustainable products'.”
Established in 2003, mutual approval with PEFC began in 2016, and is responsible for issuing PEFC logo licenses and promoting certification based on outsourcing agreements with PEFC.
