10:36 AM EST, 02/02/2022 (MT Newswires) -- Tesla (TSLA) battery supplier Panasonic said the electric vehicle maker will get top priority in the delivery of its new and more powerful 4680 lithium-ion battery, Dow Jones Newswires reported Wednesday, citing Panasonic Chief Financial Officer Hirokazu Umeda.
"Tesla has put in an extremely strong request for the 4680, so when we are actually able to deliver the 4680, we plan to put top priority on Tesla," Umeda reportedly said.
Panasonic expects to begin trial production of 4680 early in its fiscal year starting in April. However, a Panasonic spokeswoman was quoted as saying the company has not yet decided about the time and place of mass production.
Umeda reportedly also said EV battery shipments to Tesla have been interrupted by logjams at ports in recent months, but he didn't say which ports were affected.
