Movie Theater-Related Stocks Decline Friday During Broader Selloff

Movie theater-related stocks declined Friday during a broader selloff that reflected concerns about a new Covid-19 variant identified in South Africa.

Cinemark Holdings Inc. was down 5% to $16.14 and AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. declined 4% to $36.89.

The sector hit by prolonged theater closings in 2020 and the rise of streaming has had stock-price moves linked to pandemic-related developments such as vaccine progress. This year signs of hope included strong debuts for films such as "Venom: Let There Be Carnage."

EPR Properties, a landlord for many theaters, fell 6% to $48.14 on Friday, while theater advertising company National CineMedia was down 10% to $2.84. Marcus Corp. was down 5% to $18, as Reading International Inc. declined 7% to $4.40 and IMAX fell 7% to $17.19.
