I typically use a curl as a potential indicator for a reversal. So if the stock is going down, a curl would be it beginning to go up. It can also work if you are looking to short a stock and you want it to curl downwards.
For me, I use them as an indicator that I should watch the stock for confirmation. So if a stock was up, and moved down, I will look for a curl to indicate interest and the chance the stock will move back up (often with volume). If the trend confirms upwards, this is the space I personally like to add to my position in (or start a new position). If it does not, I continue to watch it until the trend breaks down.
