What kind of company is Temasek Holdings (TH)?
Recently Temasek Holdings (TH) appears in the limelight because it invested some money in the collapsed cryptocurrency exchanger FTX. Following FTX's collapse in November 2022, TH wrote down the value of their $275 million investment in FTX to zero. Although the investment amount is relatively small, it did attract attention in local media. For those of you who are interested
, here are some facts about Temasek Holdings (TH):
1. TH is owned by the Government of Singapore. Its sole shareholder is Singapore's Ministry of Finance.
2. TH is neither a government agency nor a statutory board. Like any other commercial company, TH pays taxes that contributes to government revenue in the countries it operates in, distributes dividends to its shareholder and has its own board of directors and a professional management team.
3. TH has held overall corporate global credit ratings of “Aaa/AAA” by rating agencies Moody's and Standard & Poor's respectively. It has also attained perfect quarterly scores on the Linaburg-Maduell Transparency Index, a measure of the openness of government-owned investment funds.

If you invest money in Singapore stocks, there may be a high chance that TH has stake in the company. Currently I own shares in companies e.g. $DBS Group Holdings(D05.SG$ and $SIA(C6L.SG$ where Temasek Holding is share holder.
