Margin or Cash

$AMC Entertainment(AMC.US)$
I've been searching MooMoo to find out if my shares are margin or cash. A bit embarrassing. Any help would be great.

  • C w6 : From what I've read moomoo only offers margin accounts but you do not necessarily have to use margin credit. That said this is not my primary platform so I'm just hoping to trigger someone more familiar to correct me and get you a for sure answer lol.

  • disassembly line C w6: youre right, moomoos accounts are margin accounts technically speaking. it goes both ways as well, if you deposit $20 youll only have $20 in buying power - not cash. it typically takes about 5 days to completely clear that $20 deposit /from/ your bank. basically, youre trading on margin if its on “buying power” - a margin - rather than the physical cash deposited

  • disassembly line : i guess my advice (NOT financial advice***) would be to look at the dates for when you deposited & bought a stock. if whatever amount you deposited wasnt cleared from your bank, technically its on margin rather than your physical cash. you wont be charged interest for this either (so long as you arent margin called)

  • Moneymonkeysays : I just always but according to the cash I have available. I never use margin.

  • BkbuzOP disassembly line: great, this explains it for me. thank you!

  • disassembly line Moneymonkeysays: yep, stay away from that 4x equity to cash stuff, thats how you get in extremely deep trouble as a retail trader

  • LaPlasita :

  • LaPlasita : check your margin call amount it it say other number other than zero that how much you'll be margin called for.

  • Lance Ramsay : I contacted Futu about this a few months back. All accounts allow margin trading but you can also buy and sell on cash. When you go to trade, just look and see if you are buying or selling on margin or cash. It's pretty clearly labelled. There is no way to disable margin entirely but they also don't allow margin trading unless you have $2k of assets.

  • BkbuzOP Lance Ramsay: perfect! Thank you.
