Strong Week for Ranpak Holdings (NYSE:PACK) Shareholders Doesn't Alleviate Pain of Three-year Loss

Strong Week for Ranpak Holdings (NYSE:PACK) Shareholders Doesn't Alleviate Pain of Three-year Loss

Ranpak Holdings(纽约证券交易所代码:PACK)股东表现强劲的一周并不能缓解三年亏损的痛苦
Simply Wall St ·  03/13 09:03

Ranpak Holdings Corp. (NYSE:PACK) shareholders are doubtless heartened to see the share price bounce 51% in just one week. But that doesn't change the fact that the returns over the last three years have been disappointing. Indeed, the share price is down a tragic 68% in the last three years. So it's good to see it climbing back up. While many would remain nervous, there could be further gains if the business can put its best foot forward.

Although the past week has been more reassuring for shareholders, they're still in the red over the last three years, so let's see if the underlying business has been responsible for the decline.

Given that Ranpak Holdings didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. As you can imagine, fast revenue growth, when maintained, often leads to fast profit growth.

Over the last three years, Ranpak Holdings' revenue dropped 0.8% per year. That is not a good result. The share price decline of 19% compound, over three years, is understandable given the company doesn't have profits to boast of, and revenue is moving in the wrong direction. Having said that, if growth is coming in the future, now may be the low ebb for the company. We don't generally like to own companies that lose money and can't grow revenues. But any company is worth looking at when it makes a maiden profit.

A Different Perspective

We're pleased to report that Ranpak Holdings shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 41% over one year. That certainly beats the loss of about 6% per year over the last half decade. The long term loss makes us cautious, but the short term TSR gain certainly hints at a brighter future. I find it very interesting to look at share price over the long term as a proxy for business performance. But to truly gain insight, we need to consider other information, too. Like risks, for instance. Every company has them, and we've spotted 2 warning signs for Ranpak Holdings (of which 1 doesn't sit too well with us!) you should know about.

Ranpak Holdings is not the only stock that insiders are buying. For those who like to find winning investments this free list of growing companies with recent insider purchasing, could be just the ticket.

Ranpak Holdings
