Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In GoDaddy

Don't Ignore The Insider Selling In GoDaddy

We wouldn't blame GoDaddy Inc. (NYSE:GDDY) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Amanpal Bhutani, the CEO & Director recently netted about US$7.6m selling shares at an average price of US$111. That sale reduced their total holding by 23% which is hardly insignificant, but far from the worst we've seen.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At GoDaddy

Notably, that recent sale by Amanpal Bhutani is the biggest insider sale of GoDaddy shares that we've seen in the last year. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$110. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. We note that this sale took place at around the current price, so it isn't a major concern, though it's hardly a good sign.

Insider Ownership Of GoDaddy

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. A high insider ownership often makes company leadership more mindful of shareholder interests. It appears that GoDaddy insiders own 0.4% of the company, worth about US$64m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
