Trade Alert: President & COO Of Fabrinet Harpal Gill Has Sold Stock

Simply Wall St ·  03/04 05:09

We wouldn't blame Fabrinet (NYSE:FN) shareholders if they were a little worried about the fact that Harpal Gill, the President & COO recently netted about US$4.6m selling shares at an average price of US$216. Probably the most concerning element of the whole transaction is that the disposal amounted to 100% of their entire holding.

Fabrinet Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In fact, the recent sale by Harpal Gill was the biggest sale of Fabrinet shares made by an insider individual in the last twelve months, according to our records. So it's clear an insider wanted to take some cash off the table, even slightly below the current price of US$219. We generally consider it a negative if insiders have been selling, especially if they did so below the current price, because it implies that they considered a lower price to be reasonable. While insider selling is not a positive sign, we can't be sure if it does mean insiders think the shares are fully valued, so it's only a weak sign. It is worth noting that this sale was 100% of Harpal Gill's holding.

In the last year Fabrinet insiders didn't buy any company stock. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. Insider Ownership Of Fabrinet

Fabrinet

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It appears that Fabrinet insiders own 0.4% of the company, worth about US$31m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Fabrinet Insiders?

Insiders haven't bought Fabrinet stock in the last three months, but there was some selling. And even if we look at the last year, we didn't see any purchases. On the plus side, Fabrinet makes money, and is growing profits. Insiders own shares, but we're still pretty cautious, given the history of sales. So we'd only buy after careful consideration. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision. While conducting our analysis, we found that Fabrinet has 1 warning sign and it would be unwise to ignore this.
