Foryou's (SZSE:002906) earnings growth rate lags the 75% CAGR delivered to shareholders
We think that it's fair to say that the possibility of finding fantastic multi-year winners is what motivates many investors. Not every pick can be a winner, but when you pick the right stock, you can win big. For example, the Foryou Corporation (SZSE:002906) share price is up a whopping 429% in the last three years, a handsome return for long term holders. It's also good to see the share price up 69% over the last quarter.
While the stock has fallen 7.7% this week, it's worth focusing on the longer term and seeing if the stocks historical returns have been driven by the underlying fundamentals.

While the efficient markets hypothesis continues to be taught by some, it has been proven that markets are over-reactive dynamic systems, and investors are not always rational. One way to examine how market sentiment has changed over time is to look at the interaction between a company's share price and its earnings per share (EPS).
Foryou was able to grow its EPS at 134% per year over three years, sending the share price higher. This EPS growth is higher than the 74% average annual increase in the share price. So it seems investors have become more cautious about the company, over time. Having said that, the market is still optimistic, given the P/E ratio of 80.24.
The company's earnings per share (over time) is depicted in the image below (click to see the exact numbers).
SZSE:002906 Earnings Per Share Growth August 4th 2022We know that Foryou has improved its bottom line over the last three years, but what does the future have in store? If you are thinking of buying or selling Foryou stock, you should check out this FREE detailed report on its balance sheet.
What About Dividends?
As well as measuring the share price return, investors should also consider the total shareholder return (TSR). The TSR is a return calculation that accounts for the value of cash dividends (assuming that any dividend received was reinvested) and the calculated value of any discounted capital raisings and spin-offs. So for companies that pay a generous dividend, the TSR is often a lot higher than the share price return. We note that for Foryou the TSR over the last 3 years was 440%, which is better than the share price return mentioned above. And there's no prize for guessing that the dividend payments largely explain the divergence!
A Different Perspective
It's nice to see that Foryou shareholders have gained 27% (in total) over the last year. That's including the dividend. The TSR has been even better over three years, coming in at 75% per year. While it is well worth considering the different impacts that market conditions can have on the share price, there are other factors that are even more important. Even so, be aware that Foryou is showing 1 warning sign in our investment analysis , you should know about...
