you have people that were on margin that received fed fund calls which means they have to bring in cash they have to bring in stock in order to prevent a liquidation
most people don't have that cash sitting on hand so it forces them to sell the stock
and then they get this second shock that let's suppose they have a $20,000 fed funds call a margin call...
