US presidential election schedule/structure/latest approval rating/notable stocks

avatorStock_TalkerNov 20, 2024 11:21

The US presidential election is an important event in the American political system and is held every 4 years. This election has attracted a great deal of attention not only from within America, but also from around the world. In this article, I will explain in detail the structure of the US presidential election and the 2024 US presidential election schedule.

What is the main structure of the US presidential election?

Caucuses and primaries: Each state holds caucuses and primaries, and Democratic and Republican presidential candidates are selected. In these elections, delegates to be sent to each party's national convention will be decided.

National Convention: At the national convention held in the summer, presidential candidates from each party are officially nominated. Here, delegates selected in primaries and caucuses vote to determine the final candidates.

Public vote: In a popular vote held the day after the first Monday in November, voters select each state's “presidential elector.” The number of electors in each state is determined based on that state's population.

Electoral Voting: Electoral College will gather in December to vote for voters. Here, a candidate who has won a majority of electors (270 votes or more) is elected as the next president.

Presidential Inauguration: The inauguration of the new president will be held on January 20 of the following year, and his term as president will officially begin.

Through this process, the President of the United States is elected. The electoral college system is particularly characteristic, and it is important to note that the results of popular voting do not directly decide the president, but are determined indirectly through the electors.

What is the main process of the US presidential election?

The US presidential election process is divided into the following 4 stages.

Phase 1: Primaries and caucuses

From January to June of the election year, primaries and caucuses are held in each state and district, and presidential candidates for each party are elected. Primary elections are organized by state and local governments using anonymous voting. Meanwhile, caucuses are public events hosted by political parties where voters publicly express their support for candidates and form support groups. If no candidate has received the required number of votes, a runoff vote will be held.

Phase 2: National Nomination Conference Each party will hold a national nomination conference from July to early September. Here, presidential candidates and vice presidential candidates are determined based on the results of the primaries and caucuses, and an election platform is proposed.

Phase 3: Presidential Debates Presidential debates will be held from September to October. Here, there will be 3 debates with presidential candidates and 1 debate with vice presidential candidates.

Phase 4: Presidential Election, Electoral Voting, and Presidential Inauguration Presidential Election Day is the Tuesday following the first Monday in November. On this day, voters can vote for any presidential candidate regardless of their political party. Electoral voting takes place in December of the election year, and the number of electors is 538. A candidate needs 270 votes to be elected. The next president will be inaugurated on January 20 (January 21 if Sunday) of the following year and will give his inaugural address.

What are the key timelines for the 2024 US Presidential Election?

The key schedule for the 2024 US presidential election is as follows.

January 15: The Republican presidential caucus is held in Iowa, followed by a presidential primary election in New Hampshire on January 23.

March 5: Super Tuesday. Primaries will be held in 16 states on this day, and many delegates will be selected.

July 15 to July 18: The Republican National Convention will be held to determine the Republican Party's presidential candidates and platform.

8/19 to 8/22: The Democratic National Convention will be held to decide the Democratic Party's presidential candidate and platform.

September 16 and October: Three presidential debates will be held. These debates could have a significant impact on the final election results.

November 5: Presidential election day. Voters from all over the United States will vote.

These schedules mark important milestones for the 2024 presidential election.
