Today marks the second day of FOMC meeting, which means, the Fed has to make a decision on interest rate. It’s almost 100% that they will retain the same rate this month.
The market is more interest in what Powell is going to share - whether he is dovish or hawkish. And also whether there is any indication on the number of rate cuts this year.

The core PCE index, excluding food and energy, was released last Friday when the market was closed - it came in at 2.8%, which is in line with analyst expectations.

As usual, the Fed says they need to see more evidence before they can initiate the first rate cut - this is not a surprise for the market.

Will the tone from Jerome Powell set the tone for the stock market from now till year end?
At the moment, the inflation number is getting close to Fed’s 2% target. So if we do not have negative surprise from CPI number on Tuesday, Powell should not sound too hawkish. I mean, he will likely still provide his usual cautious statements, but probably won’t be aggressively hawkish.
