Guyana Revenue Authority sues ExxonMobil (XOM.US) for allegedly misrepresenting the value of equipment
The Zhitong Finance App learned that the Guyana Tax Authority has sued ExxonMobil (XOM.US) in court. A supplier to the oil giant said earlier that the company had mistakenly inflated the value of oil well equipment 200 times to around $12 billion. Guyana Revenue Director Godfrey Statia said the department has issued a subpoena to ExxonMobil and the hearing is scheduled to be held on May 10. In response, ExxonMobil said that the reason for the overvaluation was a clerical error, and the amount was written in US dollars instead of Guyanese dollars (1 Guyanese dollar is about 0.5 cents).
