According to a report released on Thursday by research institution Jato Dynamics, China's auto companies sold more cars than their American counterparts for the first time last year, driven by BYD and emerging markets. The data shows that Chinese auto brands, led by BYD based in Shenzhen, sold a total of 13.4 million new cars last year, while American brands sold about 11.9 million. Japanese brands led with 23.59 million in sales. China's auto sales also grew faster than the US, up 23% from the previous year compared to the US's 9%. Felipe Muno, senior analyst at Jato.
