The Government announced today (30) that eligible persons born in 1961 can apply for a personal Octopus card "Lok Yau Card" specially designed for the government public transport fare concession scheme for the elderly and eligible people with disabilities ($2 concession scheme) through the Octopus App mobile app or mail form from tomorrow (December 1). The Lok Yau Card contains the personal photos and names of eligible beneficiaries, and each eligible person can only hold one. The Government will subsidize the application fee of $20 for eligible persons to apply for the Lok Yau Card for the first time. Applicants are not required to pay any additional application fee.

Eligible persons aged between 60 and 64 must hold a "Lok Yau Card" before they can enjoy the $2 concession with effect from 27 February next year. So far, Octopus Cards Limited has received about 404400 applications, accounting for an estimated 84 per cent of the population born between 1957 and 1960. The Government calls on eligible persons aged between 61 and 64 who have not yet applied for the Lok Yau Card to submit their applications as soon as possible.

The Government reminds eligible persons that they must submit their applications by December 31 this year, otherwise they will not receive the cards before 27 February next year and they will not be able to enjoy the concession of $2 by then.
