Korea's Kospi 0.2% Higher, Supported by Food, Construction Stocks -- Market Talk

0048 GMT - South Korea's Kospi is 0.2% higher at 3002.30 in early trade, supported by food, construction, oil and electronics stocks. Food company CJ CheilJedang rises 3.5% after announcing its business expansion into biodegradable plastic materials. Construction firm Samsung Engineering climbs 4.0%, while excavator maker Hyundai Construction Equipment gains 2.3%. Oil refiner S-Oil adds 1.4% as the U.S. and other countries tap strategic oil reserves to check rising crude prices. Apple supplier LG Innotek advances 3.2%. Index heavyweight Samsung Electronics edges 0.1% higher after confirming its plan to build a $17 billion new chipmaking plant in Texas. (kwanwoo.jun@wsj.com)
