Chinese Stocks Higher, Coal Miners Gain as Shortages Ease -- Market Talk
0159 GMT - Chinese stocks are higher in early trade on gains by coal miners as shortages of the fossil fuel ease. Despite a cold wave in China impacting production, coal inventories are higher with daily output at 11.825 million tons, China's National Development and Reform Commission said late Wednesday. It says that coal supply for power generation can now last 21 days. Yanzhou Coal Mining rises 1.2%, China Coal Energy gains 0.2% and Shanxi Coking Coal Energy adds 0.4%. The Shanghai Composite Index climbs 0.5% to 3509.03, the Shenzhen Composite Index gains 0.7% to 2446.05. The ChiNext Price Index is 1.1% higher at 3436.95. (yongchang.chin@wsj.com)
