Major Chinese Airlines Well Placed to Gain International Market Share -- Market Talk

Dow Jones Newswires ·  Nov 8, 2021 22:32

0329 GMT - Major Chinese airlines are well placed to restore profitability and gain market share if international travel resumes more quickly on higher vaccination rates globally and the availability of Covid-19 treatments, HSBC analyst Parash Jain says. The country's three biggest airlines--Air China, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines--could "redeploy their excess capacity from domestic routes back to the international market" and improve passenger yields, he tells Dow Jones Newswires. They are poised to gain market share on international routes when travel curbs ease, as the pandemic has forced smaller rivals to downsize their fleets, he says. Shares of the airlines have gained after Pfizer's Covid-19 pill was 89% effective in a preliminary assessment. (clarence.leong@wsj.com)
