Lonza Group AG said Tuesday that it has acquired a service unit including laboratories in Italy and a manufacturing facility in the U.S.

The Swiss life-sciences company said it has acquired a service unit from Exosomics SpA, a biotechnology company based in Siena, Italy, as well as a manufacturing facility in Massachussetts from Codiak Biosciences.

The agreement with Exosomics--financial details of which weren't disclosed--includes its service team, service assets and laboratories in Siena, Lonza said. Lonza has been a minority shareholder of Exosomics since 2017 and will remain so after the acquisition of the unit is complete, it said.

In the U.S., Lonza will become Codiak's strategic manufacturing partner for its pipeline, though Codiak will retain its pipeline of therapeutic candidates and some of its technologies, Lonza said. The U.S. company will receive $65 million of in-kind manufacturing services, according to Lonza.
