DJ Chinese Stocks End Higher Ahead of Holidays -- Market Talk

0723 GMT - Chinese stocks finished higher ahead of the weeklong National Day holiday. Gains were broad-based, although financial stocks weakened. Notable gainers included China Tourism Group, which added 3.5% after saying its subsidiaries could benefit from a preferential tax rate. Electric-vehicle battery maker CATL advanced 4.6%, while Ganfeng Lithium and Tianqi Lithium rebounded from recent weakness, up 6.5% and 5.8%, respectively. Among laggards, China Merchants Bank fell 2.2%, China Pacific Insurance lost 3.0% and China Life Insurance was 2.2% lower. The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.9% to 3568.17, dropping 0.6% for the quarter. The Shenzhen Composite Index gained 2.0%, paring losses for the quarter to 2.9%, while the ChiNext Price Index ended the session 2.2% higher.(clarence.leong@wsj.com)
