LPL Financial recruited its 15th team for its unit catering to wirehouse breakaways, but this time the new hires are not from a wirehouse.

The team, which managed approximately $675 million in advisory, brokerage and retirement plan assets, joined LPL from MassMutual, a rival independent broker-dealer.

The advisors chose to join LPL's Strategic Wealth Services division because of the additional support their practice would receive, they said in a statement. LPL launched SWS with the goal of attracting more advisors who wanted to open independent practices, but were seeking additional support with needs such as marketing and finding office space.

"We don't have the bandwidth to recreate all of these customized services on our own. Being a part of SWS allows our team to focus on the client experience and future growth."

In addition to Dunwoody, the team includes founding partner Corey Basehore, financial advisor Sarah Leer, two junior advisors, and a nine member office-support staff. The group is based in Camp Hill, Pa., and goes by the name Polaris Advisors.

Dunwoody said the team also intends to leverage LPL's M&A services to expand their practices through acquisitions. "We want to be a desired partner destination for other like-minded advisors who need additional resources or those who are looking for an exit strategy," Dunwoody said.

Dunwoody had been registered with MassMutual's broker-dealer unit, MML Investor Services, since 2005, according to BrokerCheck, the public database maintained by industry self-regulator Finra. Baseshore and Leer had been with the firm since 1996 and 2004, respectively.

LPL Financial is the nation's largest independent broker-dealer, and has continued to boost headcount through M&A deals and recruiting. In recent years, the company has introduced two new affiliation options for advisors -- SWS and an employee channel -- to boost its appeal to potential recruits. Advisors can now also move between affiliation options.
