Millionaires in the United States are increasingly worried about how much wealth they will leave to their children, according to a new survey.
That's the conclusion of a survey conducted by Motley Fool, which asked 2000 people with a net worth of more than $1 million about their inheritance.
One of the biggest concerns of respondents was that they might leave too much money to their heirs, a point mentioned by 67 per cent of respondents.
Respondents had a lot of concerns about the impact of leaving too much inheritance to their heirs, including whether the wealth would be "irresponsibly used" or "cause beneficiaries to become lazy".
"it is clear that high net worth individuals are worried about the impact of too much inheritance," said Jack Caporal, an analyst at Motley Fool. They are aware of it and actively consider setting conditions for their inheritance to inspire their heirs to accept values they consider important, such as working hard, doing well in school, and finding a good career path. ""
The survey found that 85 per cent of high net worth individuals admitted it was possible to leave too much to their heirs. These people must meet certain conditions in order to inherit the estate.
However, while they were worried about how much inheritance should be left, 60 per cent of respondents said they thought it was "very important" to leave a legacy, and about 34 per cent said they planned to leave more than 50 per cent of their assets to their heirs.
