According to the MIT Technology Review, a new company dedicated to exploring how to reverse the aging process has won Amazon.Com IncThe investment of founder Jeff Bezos.
The company, Altos Labs, was founded earlier this year and is offering an annual salary of $1 million to recruit scientists.
Mr. Bezos is one of the investors in the start-up, according to people familiar with the matter. Bezos Expeditions, Mr. Bezos's investment office, declined to comment.
Bezos resigned as CEO of Amazon.Com Inc in July. In a letter to employees in February, he said he would spend his time on philanthropy and passion projects, including his space exploration company Blue Origin.
This is not the first time Bezos has invested in an anti-aging technology company. As early as 2018, he invested in Unity Technologies, a biotechnology company dedicated to anti-aging treatments.
According to the MIT Technology Review, Altos Labs will focus on a technique called reprogramming, which works by adding proteins to cells to guide them back to a stem cell-like state.
Japanese scientist Shinya Yamanaka Yamanaka won the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for demonstrating the technology in mice. He will join Altos Labs as chairman of its scientific advisory board.
