The company, which typically charges a 30 per cent commission on services and purchases on iPhone, has come under investigation around the world, a concession made by Apple Inc.

Apple Inc, based in Cupertino, California, said the change will take effect globally for so-called reader applications, including magazines, newspapers, books, audio, music and video from early next year. The decision will resolve the investigation by the Japan Fair Trade Commission.

So far, Apple Inc has been forcing such applications to use in-app purchase systems, paying Apple Inc up to 30 per cent commission for downloading content and subscribing to within-app subscriptions. This rule still applies to game applications and in-app purchases with the highest profit margins.
