On August 20, local time, the European Commission announced that it would provide an additional 41 million euros in humanitarian funds to deal with the current COVID-19 epidemic.
The European Union said in a press release on the same day that due to the continued spread of the COVID-19 epidemic and the uneven distribution of COVID-19 vaccine, the EU will provide 41 million euros to help low-and middle-income countries facing health, humanitarian and social economic crises cope with the epidemic. Of this amount, 31 million euros were used to help countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as countries in the Middle East and Asia, to support health and medical assistance to vulnerable groups, and 10 million euros to help UNICEF provide vaccines to children within the humanitarian framework of the COVID-19 Vaccine implementation Plan (COVAX).
In addition, the European Commission will provide 100 million euros in humanitarian assistance to support the deployment of vaccination in African countries with fragile health care systems. (Ma Jinjin, a reporter from the front desk)
