Afghanistan falls to an all-time low, central bank governor says he has left the country

The decline in the Afghan currency widened to a record low; the political situation was volatile and the acting central bank governor left the country, putting further pressure on investor confidence.

At one point on Tuesday, Afghanistan fell 4.6% to 86.0625 to the dollar, the fourth day in a row, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Ajmal Ahmady, acting central bank governor of Afghanistan, posted a series of tweets saying the central bank was informed on Friday that it would no longer have access to dollars, limiting its money supply capacity and sparking further panic.

After the rapid advance of the Taliban led to the downfall of the Afghan government, Ahmady boarded a military plane at Kabul airport, where thousands of people were waiting to leave. 'There is no withdrawal plan, and President Ghani left without forming a transitional government, leading to the current chaos, 'Ahmady wrote.

"the exchange rate rose from a stable 81 position to nearly 100, and then back to 86," Ahmady wrote. "I held a meeting on Saturday to appease banks and foreign exchange agencies and calm them down."

On Sunday, Ahmady left the central bank for the airport and met with other government leaders. He wrote that although the plane had no fuel or pilot, more than 300 passengers crowded onto his flight.

"it shouldn't have ended this way. I am disgusted by the disorganized Afghan leadership, "he wrote.
