TeslaThe hope that Robyn Denholm will remain chairman dispels speculation that Mr Musk, chief executive, will return as chairman at the end of a three-year ban.
Mr Musk, who has led the electric carmaker since 2008, lost his title as chairman in 2018. At the time, the Securities and Exchange Commission reached a settlement with him after accusing him of trying to privatize Tesla, Inc. as misleading consumers.
Under the settlement announced in September 2018, Mr Musk must step down as chairman and be replaced by an independent chairman for a period of three years. This has led some to speculate that Mr Musk may resume as chairman this fall.
"We believe that Ms. Denholm has special qualifications that qualify her to serve as a board member and chairman," Tesla, Inc. said in a document on Friday. The company mentioned her "leadership experience and her expertise in accounting."
The electric car market leader plans to hold a shareholders' meeting on October 7th.
Tesla, Inc. said that director Antonio Gracias will step down as planned. After the departure of Gracias, the founder of a private equity firm, Tesla, Inc. proposed to reduce the number of board members from nine to eight.
