AutomobileA large factory in the US state of Tennessee will be closed for two weeks from next Monday due to chip shortages caused by the COVID-19 outbreak in Malaysia, and production is expected to resume on August 30, it was announced on Tuesday.
The 6 million-square-foot plant employs 6700 workers and produces six Nissan models, including the company's best-selling Rogue mini SUV in the United States.
This is the longest shutdown of a US car factory of this size since chip shortages began to affect global car production at the end of last year.
Analysts said Nissan's two-week closure of such a large plant showed that semiconductor shortages might not end later this year, as many auto industry executives had hoped.
