Sina Science and Technology News on the morning of August 1, Beijing time, it is reported thatZoomVideo Communications agreed to pay $85 million and strengthen security measures to settle withFacebookGoogleShare users' personal data with LinkedIn, as well as privacy infringement lawsuits caused by hackers.

The preliminary settlement, filed on Saturday afternoon, also needs to be approved by Judge Lucy Koh of the San Jose District Court in California.

Plaintiffs in the class action will receive a refund of 15% or $25 in core subscription fees, while others will receive compensation of up to $15.

ZoomThe security measures agreed to include warning users when meeting moderators or other participants use third-party applications in the meeting, and providing employees with special privacy and data processing training.

The company denied wrongdoing in the settlement agreement.

"users' privacy and security are Zoom's top priorities, and we attach great importance to the trust given to us by our users," Zoom said in a statement on Sunday.

Prior to that, Judge Gao Lanhui allowed the plaintiff to file a number of contract-based claims on March 11.

Although Zoom received a subscription fee of about $1.3 billion through the plaintiff in the class action, the plaintiff's lawyer said the $85 million settlement fee was reasonable given the risk of the lawsuit. They will charge $21.25 million in legal fees.

Hackers hacking into Zoom videoconferencing is known as the "Zoom bomb" (Zoombombing), which refers to the act of outsiders hijacking Zoom meetings and displaying pornographic content, using racist remarks or posting other intrusive content.

According to Section 230 of the US Federal Communications Standardization Act, Internet platforms are not responsible for user content, so Gao Lanhui said that Zoom is "basically" immune to Zoom bombs.

The number of Zoom users has increased fivefold since the new crown epidemic forced more people to work from home.

In April 2021, the company had 497000 customers with more than 10 employees, up from 81900 in January 2020. Zoom says the growth of its users is likely to slow as more and more people get vaccinated and go back to school.
